On Saturday the final of the Mahunga Shoot Out was played. The Shoot Out was resurrected after a few years absence and has proved popular during the year and culminating in a great day on Saturday. 19 finalists started the day with the one with the worst nett score going out on every hole. There were quite a few chip offs required to decide who was out. Doing the walk of shame and going out on the first hole was Laurence Butler. Going down the 16th there were four players in contention Shane Hawkins, Jason Walker, Terry Fleet and Damion Kauika. Terry Fleet walked away from the 16th safe while the other three went into a chip off. Shane Hawkins went out there and the other two progressed to the 17th. The same thing happened on the 17th with Terry Fleet safe and Damion Kauika and Jason Walker having to have a chip off with Jason going out. Neither Damion Kauika and Terry Fleets drives down the 18th were spectacular with Terry having to chip out from the trees and Damion going down the 8th. But on the green Terry was there for 4 and was getting a shot while Damion was there for 3 and wasn’t getting a shot. Terrys putt was a big one up hill to the hole while Damion’s was a lot closer but sideways and downhill to the hole. Terry managed to sink his putt meaning Damion had to get his putt to go to a chip out but it missed and Terry Fleet who had been the most consistent player on the day gained a well deserved victory. A great day was had by all and Terry paid special thanks to his caddy, wife Val, who helped him out all day.
On Sunday the Club competition was a medal round and first was James Jackson with nett 67, with Stu Northe second with nett 68 and Jason Walker third with nett 70. Malcolm Benseman 2 holes in two.
