The Club competition on Saturday was a Stableford round and Roy Brider had another day at the office with 43 points and there was daylight back to Zeb Livingston on 33 points followed by Rod Dravitzki with 32 points. Roy Brider also got a hole in two on number six.
With the dicey weather on Saturday only a few played but Sunday was a different story with plenty of members out there as well as a lot of visitors including a group from South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club who were playing the Horseshoe Club for the Ken Luke Memorial Cup in memory of one of Mahunga’s stalwarts. The Club competition was a Stableford round and in group 1 Jason Walker finally made it to the top of the leader board again with 43 points with Ray Cocks second with 42 points and there was a gap back to Isaac Walker with 38 points in third on countback from “watch out Waldorf’s back” Greg Granich also with 38 points, with Steve Dick next on 37 points. Group 2 was a lot closer and the scoring not as good but Laurence Butler was first with 35 points on countback from Alan Biel also on 35. Maurice O’Reilly was third with 34 points on countback from Kevin Hunter, you beauty, with Kevin Gibbs next with 33 points. Holes in two were scored by Ray Cocks, Greg Granich and Laurence Butler.
Last week we reported that two of our mother and daughter team of Anita Karaitiana and Cheycoda Cocks were representing Wellington at the quadrangular tournament at Belmont in Wanganui against Taranaki, Manawatu / Wanganui and Hawkes Bay. They had an awesome weekend on the course with Cheycoda winning all her matches and Wellington Mens, Womens, and Masters making a clean sweep and winning all of the trophys. A big congratulations to Anita and Cheycoda for representing Wellington and Mahunga so well.
This weekend sees the 6x6x6 Tournament on Saturday with 6 holes of Fourball, 6 holes of Ambrose and 6 holes of Foursomes. Tee off is at 11.00am with entry fee of $20 each, and entries will be taken on the day. So grab yourself a partner and turn up by 10.30am to get your names into the draw. On Sunday the club competition is Stableford and on Monday it is a Par round.
Headstones Wairarapa Twilight starts on Tuesday the 29th October. The format is a four person Ambrose with tee off between 4pm and 6pm and will run for 6 weeks with the best 5 of 6 rounds counting, and will conclude on Tuesday 3rd December with prize giving. Entry fee is $30 per player and that covers all 6 rounds and holes in two, and is open to all golfers and non-golfers. So get your entries and get further information by emailing [email protected].
