Saturday saw the semi-finals of the Club Championships and there were some very close matches. In the Open division the finalists are Brett Sargent & Ivan Karaitiana, Intermediate division Steve Walton & Greg Granich, Junior A division Adam Lenz & Robin Britt, Junior B Bill Ousey & Jack McGlashan and in the ladies Cheycoda Cocks & Anita Karaitiana. A draw for these players and those in the Lusty & Brockett Cups follows at the end of this report. Good luck to all the finalists.
Saturday's competition was Medal & Putting and first in Group 1 was Byron Karaitiana on 94, followed by Kurt Karaitiana on 98 and Paul Beech on 101. In Group 2 Laurence Butler led the way on 102, followed closely by Jack McGlashan on 103 and Adam Lenz on 105. The course must be playing easy because there were a heap of holes in 2 which were scored by Ray Cocks, Paul Beech, Frankie Martin, Ivan Karaitiana, Stu Northe, Jeremy Harp and Shane Stewart got two of them. Nearest the pins went to Chris Wenden, Stu Northe, Brett Sargent, Jeremy Harp and Derek Bentley.
Sunday's competition was Stableford and even though the wet weather wasn't conducive to good golf Laurence Butler was again to the fore with 40 points and he was well ahead of Paul Beech with 35 points and Haira Paku with 31 points.
On Tuesday the vets played a Stableford Putting differential competition. First in the men was Meki Lauvi who had 35 points and 25 putts giving him a differential of plus 10, followed by Roger Stenton with 37 points 28 putts and 9 differential, and Eddie Tuuta with 36 points 29 putts and 7 differential. In the ladies group Nan McNae led the way with 27 points 28 putts and a differential of minus 1, followed by Janet Shaw with 26 points 30 putts and minus 4 differential, and Maria Lauvi with 25 points 30 putts and minus 5 differential. In the 9 holers Irene Phelps was first with 16 points 14 putts and a differential of plus 2, followed by Betty Loader 14 points 15 putts and minus 1 differential, and Gordon Wilton 16 points 19 putts and minus 3 differential. Nearest the pins went to Nan McNae who claimed two of them, Peter Campbell & Meki Lauvi.
With the finals of the Club Championships on Saturday there is no club competition, and on Sunday the competition is a Stableford round.
