Cocks Triumphs in Dove Trophy
Ray Cocks and Tim Atkins played the final of the Dove Trophy on Saturday. It started out being a very even match and at the turn they were all square, but on the second nine Ray Cocks showed his experience and ended up winning the match on the 16th four and two.
On Saturday the club competition was a medal round and the Flag Day competition. First was Brett Sargent on countback with a nett 69 and he managed to win the flag competition going down the nineteenth with it. Next was Damian Kauika also on 69 and Phillip Granich on nett 70. Holes in two went to Brett Sargent and Damian Kauika. Nearest the pins were Makes Cents Accounting no. 1 Adam Lenz, Liquorland no. 3 Martin Andrew, McAuleys Transport no. 6 Tiny Morris, Pak n Save no. 8 Graeme Dick, Ray Cocks Building no. 10 Brett Sargent and Fleetcrete no. 17 Kevin May.
Sunday was a Stableford round and another Cocks was to the fore this time Carl Cocks led the field in with 41 points followed by Paul Beech and Ray Cocks with 40 points. Holes in two were scored by Ray Cocks and Greg Granich got two.
On Tuesday the vets played a Stableford round and in the men again taking top spot was Boidie Walker with 44 points and he was miles in front of Meki Lauvi on 35 and Doug Simpson with 33 points. In the ladies Edith Cambbell also scored a big win with 39 points with Maria Lauvi on 32 and Janet Shaw on 30 points. In the nine holer's Gordon Wilton led the way with 20 points followed by Irene Phelps on 18 and Daphne Jordan on 15. Nearest the pins went to Edith Campbell and Roger Stenton, and Roger also scored the only two on the day.
After a reasonably quiet weekend competition wise last weekend, this Saturday sees the second round of the Walker Fourball and the first round of the Roy Morris matches. The competition of the day is a par round. Sundays competition is a medal round. Don't forget ladies this Thursday the Farriers Bar & Eatery Mahunga Women's Fourball is on. Tee off is at 10.00am with a cuppa available at 9.15am. Late entries will be taken on the day.
