Saturday saw the men’s first round competition for the Bill Woods trophy being played in good conditions. The
competition was a stableford round, which saw Michelle Coley at the top with 43 points, followed by Shane
Wilson on 40 points and then Jeremy Harp and Shane Hawkins who both scored 38 points.
The Makes Cents Accounting nearest to the pin on the first hole was taken out by Jeremy Harp, the Liquorland
Masterton one on the third hole by Carl Cocks, the McAuleys transport Ltd one on the sixth hole by Tim Atkins,
the Pak’N Save Masterton one on the eighth hole by Adam Lenz, the Alister Bruce Affordable Sheds one on the
tenth hole by Phillip Granich and the Dinah and Deb Keats Professionals Real Estate one on the seventeenth hole
by Greg Granich. There was just one hole in two scored on the day and that was by Carl Cocks.
Sunday’s club competition was a short course competition, but I have not been able to find any results for the
commission as yet.
Last Tuesday the veterans group went away on the mystery bus trip which was two the den of a golf club. There
were some good scores produced on the day with Peter Campbell leading the men’s tally with 42 points, with
Roger Stenton and Bevan Hefferen both finishing on 38 points. In the ladies division Nan McNae was a clear-cut
winner with 39 points followed by Janet Shaw on 31 and Maria Lauvi on 28 points. In the nine hole division Irene
Phelps came out on top with a total of 12 points.
On Tuesday this week the veterans group played in a stableford competition. Leading the way in the ladies
division was Nan McNae with 37 points, with Maria Lauvi I the runner up on 35 points and then Janet Shaw on 31
points. In the men’s division Peter Campbell came out again on top with 42 points, with Ross Ireland the runner
up on 40 points and then Meki Lauvi I on 39 points.
The ladies nearest to the pin on the third hole was taken out by Maria Lauvi, but none of the ladies was able to
find the green on the sixth hole. The men men’s nearest to the pin on the sixth hole was taken out by Blair Harvey
and Meki Lauvi took out the one on the seventh hole.
This coming Saturday sees the club hold its annual Halberg day competition, which will also be the second round
of the Bill Woods trophy as well as the Alexander Trophy’s for both the men and woman on the day. The
competition of the day is a stableford round. Tee off time is at the usual time of mid-day, with a card draw being
used for the starting.
Sunday’s club competition will be a medal round.
