It was a great weekend for Mahunga Golf Club. Saturday saw the final round of interclub played with both teams at Mahunga in balmy conditions. The A2 team look almost certain to take out the Dunlop Cup barring a miracle from Kapiti who are lying fourth albeit 12.5 points behind but with an away catch up game due to a washout, still to be played. Mahunga had a good 12 to 3 win over Waikanae, but Kapiti still have a chance to take the title with a total of 15 points up for grabs in the still to be played match. The B2 team performed very well with an 11.5 to 3.5 win over Boulcotts Farm and they ended the interclub season in second place.
Sunday saw the Men's Marquis Shield Team travel to Featherston to take on Martinborough in the final round of the Marquis Shield. In conditions which were a complete contrast to the previous day, the players were greeted by gale force winds followed by driving rain. Mahunga prevailed in the singles with a 6.5 to 5.5 victory and in the Fourball it was again Mahunga with 4.5 to Martinborough's 1.5. A clean sweep by the juniors meant the 4 points gained ensured they won the Sutherland Trophy, the intermediates won the Intermediate Cup and Mahunga also won the Fourball Cup so a great effort from the team.
With interclub action on Saturday and Marquis Shield on the Sunday there were small field for the club competitions. Sunday's round was a Stableford round and the scoring was low but Ian Grant played the conditions well and came out on top with 35 points followed by Adam Lenz and Stu Northe on 33 points.
