Saturday saw the opening of the new downstairs bar facility at Mahunga. Over the summer months it will be well patronised and used in conjunction with the deck and in the winter it will also provide for a cosy retreat. It is a great facility for Mahunga. Upstairs will be utilised for major club days and major tournaments. It was a fun filled day of American Foursomes followed by the hangi, prize giving and a lot of merriment. Results of the American Foursomes were in the gross division first were Ivan & Byron Karaitiana with a 71 followed by Michelle Coley & Phil Granich with 79, and they got that on a countback from Brian Chappell & Rod Dravitzki. In the nett division first was Zeb Livingston & Jeremy Harp with a 65.37, second was Nolene Stevenson & Maurice O'Reilly with a nett 68.12 and third was Chris Wenden & Hiro Maeno. Holes in two went to Zeb Livingston & Jeremy Harp, and Maurice O'Reilly & Nolene Stevenson. Longest drives went to Rod Dravitzki in the men's 0-14 group and Layton Kawana in the 15 plus group, and for the ladies Tania Pouwhare was the straightest and the longest.
Sunday was a Par round and first was Kevin Gibbs from Hiro Maeno who was all square.
On Tuesday the vets played a Stableford round and in the men's group first was Eddie Tuuta with 37 points from Ross Ireland on 30. In the ladies group first was Nolene Stevenson with 36 points followed by Nan McNae with 34. For the 9 holers Peter Campbell lead the way with 14 points followed by Irene Phelps with 11 points. Nearest the pins went to Nolene Stevenson and Ross Ireland.
This weekend sees the first round of Club Championship matches to be completed on Saturday and the club competition is a Stableford round. On Sunday the competition is a Bisque Par. Congratulations to Cheycoda Cocks who has been selected to play for Wellington in the U19 Interprovincial Girls Championship at Rotorua in October. We know you will do both Wellington District and Mahunga Golf Club proud.
