Mahunga Golf Club

Club Report 8th June

It was a quiet weekend at Mahunga with a good contingent away at the Levin 72 hole mixed pairs tournament.  The weather was great for golf and I am sure plenty of golf was played but I have no results from the weekends club competitions.

On Tuesday the vets played a Stableford competition.  In the men's group Meki Lauvi was first with 37 points followed by Ross Ireland on 34 and Bevan Heffernan with 33.  The ladies group was a close fought competition with Judith O'Connor prevailing with 32 points followed by Janet Shaw and Maria Lauvi  on 31 points.  For the 9 holers Gordon Wilton had 21 points followed by Irene Phelps with 17 and Daphne Jordan with 14 points.  Nearest the pins went to number 3 Irene Phelps, number 6 Maria Lauvi and number 7 Meki Lauvi.

This weekend sees the third round of the Malmo Trophy being played on Saturday and the club competition is a par round.  On Sunday the competition of the day is a Stableford round.  Saturday sees the climax of the men's interclub with both teams at home and A2 having a great chance of taking out the division as they play Waikanae who are only 1.5 points behind them and they played out a 7.5 all draw when they last met at Waikanae.  The B2 division play Boulcotts Farm and although the cannot win their division they could push their way into outright second with a winning performance.  Sunday sees the men play the final round of the Marquis Shield at Featherston, and they meet Martinborough who are 3 points behind Mahunga.  So Mahunga have a great chance of taking out the Marquis Shield and are well placed in all the divisions to come away with some silverware but as you know it is all about how everyone plays on the day..  Good luck to all those representing the Mahunga this weekend and good golfing to you all.
