Last Saturday the men’s interclub teams were both playing away from home, and both teams returned
pleasing results. The team playing in the A2 division were playing against the Waikanae team who were leaving the competition after the first 4 rounds. In the fourball matches Mahunga team came out ahead by 3 matches to 2, while the singles matches went to the host team by 5½ to 4½, which meant that both
teams finished up with 7½ points each, which at this stage leaves both teams in the top 2 positions on
the table.
The B2 division team were playing against the Boulcott’s Farm Heritage Golf Club. In the fourball
matches it was the Mahunga team who came out on top by 4 matches to 1, and in the singles matches
both teams ended up with 5 points. That result saw the Mahunga team move up the points table and
are now close proximity to the of the table.
The club competition at home on Saturday was a medal round. Shane Hawkins produced the day’s best
score of 65 nett, with Paul Beech the runner up on 70 nett.
The Makes Cents Accounting nearest to the pin on the first hole was taken out by Paul Beech, with
Shane Hawkins taking out the Liquorland Masterton one on the third hole, and Michelle Coley took out
the Alister Bruce Affordable Sheds one on the tenth hole. The McAuleys transport Ltd one on the sixth
hole, the Pak’N Save Masterton one on the eighth hole and the Dinah and Deb Keats one on the
seventeenth hole were all not struck. Holes in 2 were scored by Shane Hawkins and Michelle Coley.
Sunday’s club competition was a stableford round. Leading the way was Paul Beech with 40 points, with
Maurice O’Reilly and Ray Cocks during the runners up position on 38 points. Holes in 2 were scored by
Darryl Coley and Ray Cocks.
On Tuesday the veterans group played in a stableford round. In the ladies division Edith Campbell came
out on top with 37 points, with Judith O’Connor and Maria Lauvi sharing the runners up position on 33
points.
In the men’s division both Doug Simpson and Roger Stenton finished with 34 points, with Meki Lauvi
taking third place on 31 points from Ross Ireland and Colin Southey. In the 9 hole division it was Irene
Phelps who came out on top with 22 points with Gordon Wilton snapping at heels on 21 points, with
Betty loader taking third place on 18 points. The ladies nearest to the pin on the third hole was taken
out by Maria Lauvi, but none of the ladies was able to make the green on the sixth hole, while the men’s
ones on both the sixth and the seventh hole were taken out by Meki Lauvi. There were no holes in 2
scored on the day.
This coming Saturday will see a round of the Dove trophy and Nichol Cup’s matches being played while
for the ladies it will be the third round of the Francis Stableford competition. The club competition on
Saturday will be a stableford round.
On Sunday the men’s Marquis Shield team will be in action at the Eketahuna golf club, where their
opponents will be the team from Featherston. For those members playing at home the club competition
will be a medal round.
