Ray Cocks Aces The Third
It was a big day at Mahunga on Saturday as the Club Championships start getting down to the business end. The day was made even bigger when Ray Cocks scored his first ever hole in one the 175 metre par 3 third hole. Congratulations Ray. The club competition on Saturday was a Par round and in Group 1 Paul Beech was the winner on 3 up followed by Ray Cocks, Jeremy Harp and Laurence Butler all on 1 up. In Group 2 the competition was very tight but Derek Bentley won the group on countback being all square from Frankie Martin and Shane Hawkins who were also all square. Frankie Martin scored the only hole in two and nearest to the pins went to Layton Kawana, Ray Cocks, Frankie Martin, Stu Northe and Jeremy Harp. Lukie's Lucky Last went to Maurice O'Reilly on 9 down.
Sundays competition was a Stableford round and first was Frankie Martin with 38 points, followed by Paul Beech and Paul Haxton on 36 points and Laurence Butler on 35 points.
A small field turned out for Vets on Tuesday because the forecast was indifferent but conditions turned out quite good. Those that did turn up played a Stableford competition and first was Peter Campbell with 38 points from Roger Stenton on 33 points and Nan McNae with 27 points.
This weekend the competition is a medal round on Saturday and a Stableford round on Sunday. If you want to go on the Labour weekend day trip to Levin then get your name on the list and pay your money by this weekend so that we can confirm numbers for the bus. The trip will take place on Saturday 22nd October 2016 and the bus will be leaving Mahunga at 7.30am. Good golfing.
