Saturday saw the first round of the Greenaway cup competition being played, as well as a Canadian foursomes round for the rest of the field.
In the Greenaway division the top pairing was that of Cheycoda Cocks and Layton Kawana with a 73 nett, with the runners up being Anita Karaitiana and Carl Cocks on a score of 75 nett on the count back. In the club division the top pairing was that of Phillip Granich and Stu Northe with the day’s best score of
66 nett, with the runners up being Ray Cocks and Shane Stewart on 70 nett. There were no holes in two scored on the day.
Sunday saw the Featherston golf club team coming to Mahunga for the round of the Steffert trophy for 2015. In the first group the top score was 39 points from Ant North, with Ray Cocks and Paul Haxton during the runners up spot on 38 points each. In the second group Maurice O’Reilly posted the day’s best score of 40 points, Laurence Butler the runner up on 38 points followed by Betty Brown on 36
points. In the third group Glen McIsaac and Ian Grant both posting scores of 38 points, with Sue Fox the next best on 37 points.
The Makes Cents Accounting nearest to the pin on the first hole, the Liquorland Masterton one on the third hole and the Alister Bruce Affordable Sheds ones on the tenth hole were all taken out by Glenn McIsaac, while my cancel took out the McAuleys transport Ltd one on the sixth hole Stu Northe the Pak’N Save Masterton one on the eighth hole and Colin Rigby the Dinah and Deb Keats Professionals Real Estate one on the seventeenth hole. Holes in two were scored by Mike Ansell, David O’Reilly, Paul Beech and Ant North.
On Tuesday the veterans group played in a stableford round. Leading the way in the ladies division was Janet Shaw with a total of 39 points, with Nan McNae and Judith O’Connor both finishing on 38 points. In the men’s division Roger Stenton came out on top with 38 points, with Blair Harvey the runner up on 36 points followed by Ross Ireland on 35 points. There was one hole in two for the day and that were scored by Michelle Coley.
This Saturday will see the club championships finals being played along with the consolation events. The tee off times for these matches follows at the end of this report. In the open division last year’s winner Brett Sargent will be up against last year’s runner-up Ivan Karaitiana, while the intermediate division will have Jeremy Harp playing Thomas Rimene, the Junior a final will see Carl Cocks up against Chris Wenden, with the junior B final having James Jackson up against Martin Andrew. The ladies open event will have Anita Karaitiana playing against Michelle Coley, while the Lusty cup final has Shane Wilson against Andre Rootman and the Brocket cup final sees Geoff Lewis playing Adam Lenz.
Sunday’s club competition will be a stableford round.
