In the open division Brett Sargent outlasted Ray Cocks in the first match and Ivan Karaitiana also outlasted Brent Daniel. These results mean that the finalists will be the same as last year.
In the intermediate section Jeremy Harp and Darryl Coley had a great battle with the match being decided on the eighteenth hole in favour of Jeremy Harp. The other match in this division saw Thomas Rimene playing Wayne Evans, with the former taking up the match.
The Junior A division saw top seed Chris Wenden outlast Shane Hawkins, while Carl Cocks was too strong for Layton Kawana. In the junior B division it was again top seed Martin Andrew who outlasted Rob Baistow, while the other semi final saw James Jackson play too well for Geoff Peck.
In the ladies match play event, Michelle Coley overcame the challenge from Noeline Stevenson, while Anita Karaitiana was able to hold off the challenge from Cheycoda Cocks
In the consolation Lusty Cup competition Shane Wilson scored a birdie on the nineteenth hole to defeat Shane Stewart, while the other match Andre Rootman play too well for Steve Walton. In the Brocket cup both Geoff Lewis and Adam Lenz progressed to through to the final.
The club competition on Saturday was a stableford round. In the first group Phillip Granich came out on top with 40 points, with Anita Karaitiana the runner up on 38 points followed by Brett Sargent on 36 points. In the second group Laurence Butler came out on top again with 40 points while the runners up
spot were shared by Andre Rootman and Neville Biel with 36 points each. In the third group Michelle Coley had the day’s best score of 41 points to head off Tim Atkins on 40 points and Robin Britt on 37 points.
The Makes Cents accounting nearest to the pin on the first hole was taken out by Steve Walton, the Liquorland Masterton one on the third hole went to Graeme Dick, the McAuleys transport Ltd one on the sixth hole went to Kerry Bennett, the Pak’N Save Masterton one on the eighth hole to Ray Cocks, the Alister Bruce Affordable Sheds one on the tenth hole to Kurt Karaitiana and the Dinah and Deb Keats Professionals Real Estate one on the seventeenth hole went to Laurence Butler. Holes in two were
scored by Laurence Butler, Mark Logan, Frank Martin, Shane Wilson, Kurt Karaitiana and Allan Biel.
Sunday’s club competition was a medal round. Leading the way was Geoff Peck with a score of 69 nett, with Laurence Butler the runner up on 72 nett and then Paul Beech on 73 nett. Mark Logan scored the only hole in two for the day.
On Tuesday the veterans group played in a par round. Leading the way in the men’s division was Maria Lauvi I with a score of three up, with Nan McNae taking second place on one up and then Judith O’Connor finished in third place.
In the men’s division Peter Campbell had the day’s best score of seven up, with Blair Harvey the runner up in this group on three up with Roger Stenton one hole further back. In the nine hole division Irene Phelps come out on top with a score of two up with Betty loader taking second place in the group.
There were only nearest to the pins on the sixth hole the woman’s one going to Nan McNae and the men’s one went to Meki Lauvi I. There were no holes in two scored on the day.
This coming Saturday sees the first round of the Greenaway cup competition being played with the club competition being a Canadian foursomes round.
Sunday will see the Featherston club come to Mahunga to play for the Steffert trophy for the 2015 year.
The tee off time for this visit on Sunday is 10:30 AM, with score cards needing to be handed in before 10:15 AM.
