The long weekend saw the Mahunga club relatively quiet, but Saturday saw the final chance for
members to book their place in the final of the Mahunga point’s cup.
Saturday’s competition was a stableford round, and the scoring was quite good. At the top of the results
were Phillip Granich and Tim Atkins who both returned scores are 45 points, with Rod Dravitzki taking
third place on 43 points with Brett Sargent being fourth on 41 points.
The nearest to the pins were dominated by Brett Sargent, who took out the Makes Cents Accounting
one on the first hole the Liquorland Masterton one on the third hole and the McAuleys Transport Ltd
one on the sixth hole. The Pak’N Save Masterton one on the eighth hole went to Rod Dravitzki with Greg
Granich taking out the Alister Bruce Affordable Sheds one on the tenth hole and Anita Karaitiana the
Dinah and Deb one on the seventeenth hole. Holes in two were scored by Anita Karaitiana and Rod
Dravitzki.
Sunday’s club competition was a stableford round, which saw both Ray Cocks and Layton Kawana finish
on 37 points, with Paul Haxton taking third place on 33 points. There were no holes in two scored on the
day.
On Tuesday the veterans group played in a par competition. In the ladies division Judith O’Connor and
Maria Lauvi I shared the honours with a score of even par, with Michelle Coley in third place on a score
of one down. In the men’s division Peter Campbell came out on top with a score of seven up, followed
by Meki Lauvi I on six up and then Ross Ireland on five up.
The ladies nearest to the pin on the third hole went to a visitor in Salu Alean, and the one on the sixth
hole fell to Michelle Coley. The men’s nearest to the pin on the sixth hole was won by Roger Stenton
while the seventh one fell to Meki Lauvi. Roger Stenton scored the only hole in two for the day.
This coming Saturday sees the final of the Mahunga points cup competition being played, with the
competition of the day being a medal round with the top 20 players in the point’s cup teeing off from
midday from the first tee. The remainder of the field tee off from the eighth tee.
Sunday will see a competition between the Masterton cosmopolitan club and the South Wairarapa
Working Men’s Club for the Ken Luke trophy. This competition will tee off from 11 AM. The club
competition on the day will be a stableford round.
Coming up on Sunday, November 8 is the Wairarapa open men’s fourball best ball at Mahunga. An entry
sheet for the tournament is posted in the clubhouse foyer.
