From Kevin May
Last Saturday saw a smallish field playing in a stableford round. The best of the players was Greg
miniature with a total of 43 points, with Layton Kawana the runner up on 38 points, with Allan Biel the
next best on 37 points. Greg Granich also scored the only hole in two for the day.
The weather on Sunday saw to it that only a small number took to the field, with result that there was
no club competition on the day.
On Tuesday the veterans group played in a stableford round. The best of the ladies was Nan McNae with
total of 39 points, with Cilva Richmond the runner up on 37 points and then Janet Shaw on 36 points. In
the men’s division it was tight at the top, with Meki Lauvi I, Allan Allsworth and Ross Ireland all finishing
with 37 points. In the nine hole division it was Irene Phelps who came out on top with 18 points, with
Gordon Wilton the runner up on 15 points.
The ladies nearest to the pin on the third hole was won by Michelle Coley and the one on the sixth hole
was won by Maria Lauvi, while the men’s ones on the sixth went to Doug Simpson and the one on the
seventh to Meki Lauvi. There were no holes in two scored on the day.
This coming Saturday sees the old its annual Christmas Stableford tournament. Entries for this event will
be taken right up to starting time. The draw will be a card draw with cards to be in the match office by
11 AM with the starting time being multiple tees at 11:30 AM.
Sunday’s club competition will be a bisque par round. This is a competition where all players have the
number of strokes that are allocated to them by their handicap, with the strokes being used at the
discretion of the player on the completion of the whole being played.
As this will be the last report from Mahunga for the 2015 year, I like to wish all golfers the best wishes
for the festive season, and would like to see them on the course early in the New Year.
