Mahunga hosted both our interclub teams last weekend with our A2 team prevailing over Boulcott
9.5 to 5.5. and our B2 team with a very good win over Karori 14 to 1. The club competition on the Saturday was a medal and putting round with Robin Britt coming out on top with a 64 net & 25 putts, second was Kerry Bennet with a 68 net & 28 putts and third was Eddie Tuuta also with a 68 net but with 32 putts. Sunday was a stableford round with Mark Logan leading the way with 42 points on count back from Ian grant with 42 points also. Coming in third on count back with 39 points was Brian Chapple. Holes in two and there was only one and that went to Paul Beech. This Saturday the Club Competition is a par round with Sundays competition a stableford round. The weekend also see’s our A2 interclub team away to Titahi Bay and our B2 team at home playing Judgeford. On Sunday Our Marquis shield team are playing Martinborough at Featherstone. DOVE TROPHY FINALISTS FOUND
The finalists for the first major club competition of the year were found on Saturday. All the matches were very close. Tim Atkins prevailed over Bob Baistow to win 2 and 1, while Ray Cocks beat Bill Ousey 2 up. In the consolation round the Nicol Cup the finalists are Rod Dravitzki and Ian Grant. The finals of these two trophies are played on the 28th May and I am sure the matches will be close given the number of shots involved but I am picking Ray Cocks to prevail in the Dove Trophy and Rod Dravitzki in the Nicol Cup. The club competition on Saturday was a Stableford and Ken Downing who is immaculate form took out Group 1 with 40 points followed by Brett Sargent on 38 points, Phil Granich on 37 points, Paul Beech 36 points and Greg Granich 34 points. Group 2 saw Robin Britt post the round of the day scoring a huge 46 points, followed by Tim Atkins on 43 points, Kerry Bennett on 41 points, Ian Grant 40 points and Martin Andrew 38 points. Holes in two were scored by Ray Cocks, Phil Granich and Brett Sargent. Nearest the pins were no. 1 Brett Sargent, no. 3 Ian Grant, no. 6 Ray Cocks, no. 8 Rod Dravitzki, no. 10 Phil Granich and no. 17 Ken Downing. Lukies Lucky Last was a bit of battle but was eventually awarded to Graham Duckett with a sub 30 point round. Better pull your socks up over the next 3 weeks Graham. Sunday's Competition was a Bisque Par round and was a game of 2 halves for some. Darryl Coley got off to a magnificent start on the first nine but faded in the run home while Kevin Hunter and Maurice O'Reilly got off to slow starts but powered home and in the end Maurice O'Reilly took the honours on 8 up followed by Kevin Hunter on 6 up on countback from Frankie Martin. Sunday also saw the ladies Tilson Salver team in action at Carterton against Masterton. In very trying conditions for all on Cartertons recently cored greens the Mahunga ladies managed to come away with a 3 all draw so a good effort. The Mahunga Team now shares the lead with Featherston on 11.5 points and are closely followed by Carterton and Castlepoint on 11 points so the Tilson Salver competition is wide open with two rounds to go. This weekend the competition of the day is Medal and Putting and on Sunday it is a Stableford round. On Saturday both the men's interclub teams are at home with A2 up against Boulcott Heritage farms and B@ up against Karori. Good luck to both those teams who are doing well in their respective divisions. Good golfing everyone before winter golf really sets in. |
