Last weekend the finalists for the Walker Fourball and the Roy Morris Trophy were found. All matches went down to the wire and some even further. In the first semi-final of the Walker Fourball Ivan and Byron Karaitiana beat Shane Stewart and Graham Duckett on the 18th with a birdie, and in the second semi Brett Sargent and Graeme Dick beat Laurence Butler and Damian Kauika on the 19th. The final this Saturday will ban awesome match up of some of the top golfers in our Club. In the Roy Morris Trophy Ray Cocks and Neville Biel will play Anita Karaitiana And Darryl Coley who managed to win their semi on the 20th hole, so there will be a bit of family rivalry in that one.
Saturdays competition was a medal round and first was Darryl Coley with a nett 68 followed by Jeremy Harp on 69 and Kurt Karaitiana with a nett 70. Holes in two went to Rod Dravitzki and Brett Sargent. Nearest the pins were won by Rod Dravitzki, Graeme Dick, Jeremy Harp and Ivan Karaitiana. The Sunday competition was cancelled due to the howling winds.
On Tuesday the vets played a par round and in the men's group the competition was tough with the winners being Blair Harvey, Peter Campbell and Doug Simpson who were all square. In the ladies Edith Campbell was first on 4 up followed by Janet Shaw who was all square and Nan McNae with 2 down. Daphne Jordan led the nine holers being 1 down followed by Irene Phelps with 3 down. Nearest the pins were scored by Janet Shaw and Blair Harvey. Interesting statistics from the vets with the youngest player being 70 years young and the next youngest was 77, and the oldest being 88! Never too young and never too old to play golf at Mahunga.
The club competition on Saturday is a medal round and Sundays competition is a par round. The finals of the Walker Fourball and Roy Morris Trophy will be played on Saturday and the tee times off No. 1 are 11.45am Ivan & Byron Karaitiana, Brett Sargent & Graeme Dick; 11.52am Anita Karaitiana & Darryl Coley, Ray Cocks & Neville Biel.
Good golfing and go the Hurricanes.
