With the dicey weather on Saturday only a few played but Sunday was a different story with plenty of members out there as well as a lot of visitors including a group from South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club who were playing the Horseshoe Club for the Ken Luke Memorial Cup in memory of one of Mahunga’s stalwarts. The Club competition was a Stableford round and in group 1 Jason Walker finally made it to the top of the leader board again with 43 points with Ray Cocks second with 42 points and there was a gap back to Isaac Walker with 38 points in third on countback from “watch out Waldorf’s back” Greg Granich also with 38 points, with Steve Dick next on 37 points. Group 2 was a lot closer and the scoring not as good but Laurence Butler was first with 35 points on countback from Alan Biel also on 35. Maurice O’Reilly was third with 34 points on countback from Kevin Hunter, you beauty, with Kevin Gibbs next with 33 points. Holes in two were scored by Ray Cocks, Greg Granich and Laurence Butler.
Last week we reported that two of our mother and daughter team of Anita Karaitiana and Cheycoda Cocks were representing Wellington at the quadrangular tournament at Belmont in Wanganui against Taranaki, Manawatu / Wanganui and Hawkes Bay. They had an awesome weekend on the course with Cheycoda winning all her matches and Wellington Mens, Womens, and Masters making a clean sweep and winning all of the trophys. A big congratulations to Anita and Cheycoda for representing Wellington and Mahunga so well.
