On Friday in the practice round in Group 1 Caleb Kahui showed he was going to be a force to be reckoned with scoring 40 Stableford points. Jeremy Davidson was next on 38 points followed by Bevan Hay and Brendan Curtis who both had 37 points. In group 2 Shane Stewart had 39 points followed by Simon Amos with 38 points and Johnson Williams 36 points. Holes in two were scored by Brendan Curtis, Johnson Williams, Shane Stewart & Bevan Hay who got two of them.
The tournament is played over two rounds with gross and net divisions. In Men's Group 1 which was for the single handicappers Kerry Mountcastle held his form of recent weeks and was the winner of the gross division with 143, followed by Toby Tuoro 144, Dean Gray 146, Jeff Tuoro 150 and Jeff Kahui 156. The Nett division was easily taken out by Jason Walker with 137 from Caleb Kahui 141, Brendan Curtis and Alex Jones on 142 and Brian Pengelly on 143.
In Men's Group 2 for handicaps 10 to 14 Tom Ratima won the gross with a score of 161 from Bevan Hay 163, Jeremy Davidson 167, Hirito Maeno 168 and Darcy Kahui 170. In the Nett division first was Mark Whale with 138 from Simon Amos 140, Stu McClaran and Chris Wenden 145 and Darryl Coley 149.
In Men's Group 3 the O'Reilly brothers ruled with David easily winning the gross on 176 and Maurice the nett with 136. In the gross David was chased home by Shane Hawkins with 179, Laurence Butler 180, Terry Fleet 184 and Mark Logan 186. In the nett Maurice was well clear of Kevin Hunter 139 who was also well in front of the rest with James Jackson on 146, Jack McGlashan 147 and Pat Melaugh 149.
In the Ladies Group Wendy Rhodes easily took out the gross division with 161 followed by Anita Karaitiana on 168, Sereana Philipps 181 and Tania Pouwhare 184. In the Nett division Cheycoda Cocks was the easiest winner of the weekend with 139 and was 16 shots clear of Rachel Head on 155, Jennie Heggie 156 and Di Hunter 159.
After such a big weekend the vets turned out on Tuesday to play a par round. In the men's group Eddie Tuuta was first on 5 up from Peter Campbell 3 up and Blair Harvey 2 up. In the ladies group Nan McNae was first on 1 down from Maria Lauvi 2 down. For the 9 holer's Irene Phelps was 3 down from Janet Shaw on 4 down. Nearest the pins went to Maria and Meki Lauvi.
This coming weekend sees the Club competition on Saturday a Par round while Sunday is a Stableford. The Division 3 interclub team hosts Waikanae at home and Division 8 is away to Manor Park. On Sunday the ladies Tilson Salver team play Carterton at Featherston. Next Tuesday is ANZAC Day and the annual Haddon Donald Trophy will be played with the competition being a Four Ball Best Ball.
