It was a busy weekend at Mahunga with The Wairarapa Men’s Fourball Best Ball played over 36 holes on Saturday and Wellington Golfs Champion of Champions on Sunday.
Saturday saw some great scoring in the Fourball with the course in immaculate condition.
In the Gross J Peters & J McGillicuddy were first with 132 on countback from I Karaitiana & B Karaitiana with a gap to L Sayer & T Slaven 3rd on 142 and C Wenden & Z Livingston were 4th with 145.
In The Nett it was a closely fought battle with R Cocks & O Lloyd coming out on top with 123 nett, and C Kahui & B Curtis were second on countback with 125 from P Granich & K Walker, and N Gordon & A Carroll were 4th also on 125.
Nearest the pins in the morning went to M Edgington, W Evans, P Granich, J McGillicuddy and R Draviztki, while holes in two were scored by B Karaitiana, L Duckett, L Kawana, C Kahui, J McGillicuddy & J Walker. In the afternoon the nearest the pins went to L Sayer, T Slaven, A Smith, O Lloyd, G Dick and J McGillicuddy, while holes in two were scored by I Karaitiana, B Karaitiana, G Dick, B Sargent, C Kahui, M Edgington, R Cocks, O Lloyd, J Peters, J McGillicuddy & K Walker.
On Sunday in the Champion Of Champions the day started fine and most got through their morning round but then the heavens opened and conditions were very different for the afternoon round. The Mahunga team acquitted themselves very well with Troy Shaw coming second in the Senior division.
On Tuesday the Vets played a Stableford round and in the men’s division Roy Brider was first with 37 points and he was closely followed by Garth Ramsden, Ross Ireland and Meki Lauvi all on 36 points. In the ladies division Nan McNae was an easy winner with 37 points, followed by Maria Lauvi on 32 and Michelle Coley on 30 points. Nearest the pins went to Michelle Coley, Shirley Simpson, Garth Ramsden and Roy Brider, and Roy also scored a hole in two.
This Saturday is the Mahunga Points Cup Final with the club competition a medal round and on Sunday it is a Stableford round off the green tees. Check the board for your handicap for this one.
