It was a big day at Mahunga on Saturday with the Liquorland American Foursomes held. A good field was assembled and the conditions were perfect and some good golf was played by some. The scoring was very close with the winners coming out on top by count back. Layton Kawana & James Jackson were first with 43 points on with Terry Adamson & Matt Paku second also on 43. Mike Quinlan & Jack McGlashan were third on countback with 42 points from Steve Blundsen & Shane Hawkins and Maria & Meki Lauvi all with 42 points. The long drives went to Sam Forrester, Bobby Kahui & Michelle Coley. Straightest drives went to Tania Tatana and surprisingly James Jackson. Nearest the pins went to Meki Lauvi, Tweet Bird and Matt Paku.
Sunday was more sedate for some with the Club competition being a medal round. In group 1 first was Greg Granich who putted like a demon and came in with nett 72, with Zeb Livingston 2nd with nett 73, followed by Wayne Evans and Phillip Granich both with nett 76. In group 2 Brian Chappell was the winner with nett 71, with James Jackson 2nd with nett 73, Kevin Jury 3rd with nett 75 and Mark Logan 4th with nett 76. Holes in two were scored by Mark Logan and Terry Adamson.
On Tuesday the Vet’s played a stableford round and for the men Ken Downing was first with 34 points from Roy Brider with 30 points. For the ladies Michele Coley was first with 26 points with Gloria Anderson second with 23 points. Nearest the pins went to Gloria Anderson and Ken Downing.
This Saturday sees the Wairarapa Fourball Best Ball played at Mahunga over 36 holes. Entries are still open for anyone who still wants to play with entry fee $60 per pair.
