Saturday was Mahunga Golf Clubs Halberg day with over $700 raised for the Halberg Sport Disability Foundation. The competition of the day was a Stableford and was played in balmy conditions. In the men's division in group one first was Ray Cocks on 40 points, followed by Hiro Maeno on 39 points, Ivan Karaitiana 38 points and Chris Wendon 36 points. In group two first was Graham Duckett with a massive 45 points from Shane Stewart on 40 points, with both Graeme Lee and Ken Downing on 38 points. In the ladies division first was Anita Karaitiana with 34 points from Denise Orr on 30 points and Michelle Coley on 29 points. Holes in two were scored by Shane Stewart and Hiro Maeno who both got two of them, as well as Stu Northe, Paul Hawkes and Ray Cocks. Nearest to the pins went to Ken Downing, Ivan Karaitiana, Anita Karaitiana, Hiro Maeno and Paul Hawkes. So a very good day was had by all and the winners of the Alexander Trophies were Graham Duckett with 45 points for the men and Anita Karaitiana with 34 points for the ladies. They will both now represent Mahunga at the Wellington regional Halberg Tournament.
Sundays competition was also a Stableford round and first was Darryl Coley with 40 points, from Paul Beech on 37 points and Chris Wendon on 36 points. Holes in two went to Terry Fleet and Ivan Karaitiana who got two of them. On Sunday the ladies played Tilson at Carterton and Mahunga were up against Masterton. Mahunga came out on top with a 3.5 to 2.5 win, and hold a 4 point lead over Featherston and the rest of the field, but Mahunga have the bye in the next round so it will all come down to the final round where Featherston have the bye.
This weekend sees the first round of Club Championship qualifying on Saturday and the competition of the day is Medal. Remember all qualifying must be under starters orders with tee off at 11am. On Sunday the ladies Tilson Salver is at Mahunga and their tee off is at 10am.
