Saturday and Sunday saw the Mahunga Golf Club holding their annual 36 hole Easter tournament, with a
good sized field playing in quite pleasant weather conditions.
After the 2 days of golf the ladies gross division was taken out by Anita Karaitiana a score of 157, with
Tania Pouwhare the runner up on 176, followed by Karen Ratima on 178, Casey Ratima on 178, Tracy
Donald on 182 and Roselee Thurston on 184. In the net division it was Leslie Amos who came out on top
with a nett score of 143, with Di Hunter and Cheycoda Cocks the runners up on 146, followed by
Noelene Stevenson on 152 and Dee Lukey on 153.
In the men’s gross in the first group Owen Lloyd came out on top with an 2 under par score of 142, with
Jeoff Tuoro on 143, followed by Ryan Fahey on 148 and Bob Steele on 155 and Trevor Barnard on 157. In the net division Glen Signal came out on top with a score of 134 on the count back from Caleb, Kahui,
with Suele Soromon on 138 and then Dave Goddard on 143 and Ian Tuoro on 149.
The men’s second division Gross was taken out by Lance Duckett with a score of 150, followed by Rod
Dravitzki on 153, Stu Northe and Paul Beech on 156 and Haira Paku on 160. In the net division it was
Graeme Dick who came out on top with a score of 133, with Phillip Granich the runner up on 136,
followed by Simon Amos on 139, then Ray Cocks on 142 and Bevan Hay on 145.
In the men’s third group it was Tom Ratima who came out on top with a score of 147, with Darcy Kahui
the runner up on 161, followed by Joe Tuoro on 167, Brian Chappell on 168 and Terry Fleet on 172. In
the net division in Wayne Evans came out on top with a score of 136, with Paul Haxton the runner up on
hundred and 39, followed by Laurence Butler and Chris Wenden on 141 and then Damian Apiata on 145.
The fourth men’s group saw Shane Stewart come out on top with a score of 169, with Bob Baistow the
runner up on 170, then Karl Churchward on 175, Maurice O’Reilly on 178 and then Mark Logan on 180.
In the net division Carl Cocks come out on top with a score of 133, with Dave O’Reilly the runner up on
136, followed by Graham Duckett on 137, Robin Britt on 138 and then Bill Ousey on 145.
On Tuesday the veterans group played in a par competition. Leading the way in the ladies division was
Maria Lauvi with a score of 10 up, with Janet Shaw the runner up on 8 up and then Judith O’Connor on 2
up. In the men’s division Ross Ireland came out at the top with a score of 7 up, followed by Roger
Stenton on 6 up and Peter Campbell on 3 up. In the 9 hole division Irene Phelps led the way with a score
of 4 up followed by Gordon Wilton on 1 up and then Daphne Jordan in third place. There were no holes
in 2 scored on the day.
This coming Saturday sees the men’s interclub teams in action again, with the division A2 team playing
away at the Waikanae golf club and the division B2 team playing against Boulcott farm, which is also an
away fixture. For those not involved in the interclub matches, the club competition on Saturday will be a
medal round.
